Occupational therapy can help if you or the person you care for has difficulty with everyday tasks, such as dressing or getting to the shops. The Occupational Therapist can provide help and training with everyday activities and offer advice on adapting the home or workplace to meet individual needs.  Which could support you, or the person you care for regain or improve their independence.

Much of the Occupational Therapist’s work focuses on the functional implications of illness or disability.  Their work may involve assessment and rehabilitation for relevant daily living activities.  For example, aspects of personal care and meal preparation. The assessments may be carried out while someone is in hospital or at their place of residence, following discharge. The Occupational Therapist can also advise and recommend equipment, such as mobility aids, wheelchairs and other special devices.

Telecare is the name given to electronic equipment which can support people to remain independent in their own homes. Equipment can help someone feel safe and secure within their home and also offer family and carers peace of mind and reassurance. An alarm or sensor can be worn by the person or placed around the home. This enables the person to directly seek help or, when a sensor is automatically triggered, alerts a call centre or an on site carer that the person requires assistance.

For this service you will need a Care Needs Assessment. Please read about further services and to request an assessment below.
