Support for Children and Young People

For children or their families who want help to manage their mental wellbeing, there are lots of websites that provide information and support to young people and families. This Link provides details on a range of different sites and resources

Social prescribing is when residents are linked to local community groups and services.  This linking enables them to develop skills and confidence to improve their self care and tackle the social causes of ill health and wellbeing.

Who is social prescribing for?

The service is for all adults (18+) who are North Lincolnshire residents.  Social prescribing focuses on:

  • Supporting people to cope with their long-term conditions; or those of someone they may care for.
  • Increasing independence to enable and empower people to self-manage their own health and wellbeing.
  • Reducing social isolation; supporting those who are feeling lonely and looking for social opportunities to get more involved in the community.
  • Signposting people with social, emotional or practical needs to a range of local services.
  • Promoting an holistic approach to health and wellbeing by focusing on the wider determinants of health.
  • Supporting people to access relevant services e.g. housing, welfare advice and employment programmes.
  • Health promotion services such as smoking cessation and physical activity.

How do I access social prescribing?

Speak to your GP practice staff who will be able to directly refer you to a link worker.

The User and Carer Independent Forum provides an opportunity for mental health service users and Carers to have a say in the planning, development and monitoring of local mental health services. The Forum is a local charity managed by a board of mental health service users and Carers. Independent Forum Members can use the Forum to draw on their experiences of mental illness and those of the people they care for.  Members can voice their ideas, opinions and views on local and national issues about mental health.

They can also take part in various activities to help to make a difference to their lives and the lives of other service users, including:

  • Decisions about how the Forum works.
  • Discussing and giving an opinion on a variety of areas, from the internal decoration of mental health service buildings to issues of policy.
  • Training to join a small team of service users and Carers who take part in recruitment interview panels.
  • Monitoring local mental health services, by speaking to service users about their experiences.
  • Members hold regular meetings and it is a great place to meet new friends.
  • Training to educate other members of staff about what it feels like to have a mental health illness.
