WORRIED ABOUT HOMELESSNESS?

If you are worried about losing your home, it is important to act early.

Providing unpaid care can be rewarding, but it can also place significant pressure on your finances, housing, and wellbeing.

In the UK, unpaid Carers are more likely to experience financial hardship, with over a million living in poverty. If you’re worried about your housing situation, you are not alone.  There is support available.

What is Homelessness

What is Homelessness

Homelessness is not just about sleeping on the streets. It describes a situation where someone does not have a safe, secure, and stable place to live.

In the UK, homelessness can include a range of different situations. You may be considered homeless if you are:

  • Sleeping rough (outside or in places not meant for living)
  • Staying in temporary accommodation, such as hostels or shelters
  • “Sofa surfing” — staying with friends or family because you have nowhere else to go
  • Living in accommodation that is unsafe, overcrowded, or unsuitable
  • At risk of losing your home (for example, facing eviction)

What you should do now

What you should do now

If you are worried about losing your home, it is important to act early.  Getting help quickly can increase your options and reduce stress.

You should:

  • Contact your local council as soon as possible
  • Speak to your landlord if it feels safe to do so
  • Get advice from a housing support service
  • Check if you are entitled to financial support

Your local council has a duty to help if you are homeless or at risk.  They may offer advice, help you stay in your home, or support you to find somewhere else.

Support for Carers

Support for Carers

As a Carer, your housing situation may be linked to your caring role.
Changes in your circumstances can affect both you and the person you support.

It is important to explain your caring role when seeking housing support.
This helps services understand your needs more clearly.
