Befriending for You
At times when we feel vulnerable, perhaps following some bad news, and feel the need for some informal support from someone who understands, the Befriending Service may help.
Most of us have friends and family but do not always feel that we can talk to them. A befriender is someone in whom you can confide, knowing that you will not be judged or criticised and that your feelings and opinions are important.
Befrienders can also help if you don’t have the confidence to go to a group or workshop on your own. If you find it hard to leave your home alone, a befriender can support you.
Meeting up with a befriender once or twice a month can help build your confidence and help you to feel less lonely and isolated.
COMING SOON! Befriending for the person you care for
Befriending for the person you care for is designed to help give you a break from your caring role.
Befrienders are volunteers. We pair a volunteer with the person you care for, to try and ensure they have something in common. Depending on the needs of the person you care for, a volunteer can sit and chat with them while you are doing something for yourself, or take them to an activity or cafe if you have something arranged.
Being able to have a break can help you cope well with managing your caring role and avoid a crisis situation. Taking time for yourself may just be having a nap for an hour, doing some shopping or meeting with friends for a couple of hours.
